TITLE:
Maryland State Council on Vocational-Technical Education Annual Activities Report 1988.
PUBLICATION_DATE:
1988
ABSTRACT:
This report summarizes the activities of the Maryland State Council on Vocational-Technical Education for calendar year 1988. The report includes
council recommendations for state legislation during the 1989 session
of the General Assembly and a matrix on the status of implementation of
council recommendations from prior annual and biennial reports. The report
is organized in six parts. The first two parts outline council purpose
and philosophy; the third part describes council activities as carried
out by the policy committee, the evaluation and planning committee, and
the private sector committee, along with other council activities and
the annual awards program. Part IV presents recommendations for legislative
proposals for: (1) summer programs in vocational-technical education;
(2) a state-funded governor's challenge grant program for equipment
purchases; and (3) vocational-technical set aside from state shares of
basic current expense aid and a report on the status of previous council
recommendations. Part V lists a number of actions that the council believes
will require continued emphasis if Maryland's vocational-technical education
delivery systems are to meet the challenges of anticipated future demands
for technically trained workers. The final part projects council concerns.
An appendix outlines council responsibilities. (KC)
